We’re getting closer to the summer months, which means it’s grilling season. One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not putting in the time to keep your gas grill cleaned and well-maintained. You will not only have to make repairs or replace the grill sooner; your food will suffer too. Luckily, it is not very difficult to keep up with grill maintenance, and most tasks will only require a few minutes of your time. Here are several things we would like you to do to get more life out of your grill:
Check Your Grill for Any Leaks: This is one of a few safety tasks you should do before you operate a grill. You’re literally playing with fire so it’s best to heed on the side of caution at all times. First and foremost, you should always make sure that your gas cylinder is not over-filled. Propane expands so, by law, you can only have a cylinder filled up to eighty percent. Second, check your hoses for any leaks using a soap and water solution. It’s never a good idea to use a flame. If you notice any leaks, replace them immediately before use. Also, be sure to place the in a well-ventilated, open spot.
Clean Your Grill’s Grates, Lid, and Exterior: You’re dealing with grease here so your grill is bound to get dirty. Before you start cooking, be sure to pre-heat the grill to remove any leftover debris on the grates with a bristle brush. You can clean the grate more deeply once the grill is turned off and cool, using regular dish soap. It’s recommended that you remove the grill tray after using it to remove the excess grease. You should also clean the lid and outside of your grill with a non-toxic, non-abrasive cleaner at least once every few weeks to ensure it keeps its shine.
Use a Grill Cover: Let’s say you purchased a really expensive grill; would you then allow it to withstand the elements on its own? That wouldn’t be a good idea. We highly recommend you check out island grill covers so you can make sure your grill isn’t exposed to rain, dirt, and other things that will cause your grill to rust or become damaged any other way. At Creative Covers, we provide grill owners with customized island grill covers sewn specifically to your grill’s dimensions. Call us today at (800) 970-0901 to order your custom grill cover.
