How To Measure Your Furniture For Custom Covers

By in

When shopping for custom covers for your furniture, it is important to get the measurements right so that your furniture is well protected. When in doubt, it is always better to get a cover that is slightly bigger as compared to one that is slightly smaller. Stretching a cover that is too small can cause damage to the material, reducing its lifespan as well as effectiveness. However, a cover shouldn’t be too big either as that makes it prone to collecting rainwater and flying in the wind.

Taking accurate measurements is the only way to ensure that the custom cover for your furniture will fit just right, offering maximum protection.  If you are unsure how to do that, read on for our top tips.

Chair Covers

For armchairs and couches, you need to measure the height, width, length as well as arm height (if applicable).

  • Height: Measure from the ground to the highest point of the chair, usually the back.
  • Width: Measure from front to back.
  • Length: Measure from one side to the other.
  • Arm height: Similar to height, but measure from the ground to the highest point of the arms.

Chaise Lounge Covers

These measurements should be taken with your chaise lounge in a sitting position at the fullest possible setting.

  • Height: Measure from the ground to the highest point of the chaise lounge, usually the back. It is recommended to leave a few inches of clearance from the ground.
  • Width: This is the measurement from front to back.
  • Length: Measure from side to side from the widest part of the chaise lounge.

Grill Covers

Measuring a grill is much the same as measuring a chaise lounge.

  • Height: Measure from the ground to the highest point of the grill, leaving a few inches of clearance from the ground.
  • Width: Measure from front to back.
  • Length: Measure from side to side across the front of the grill.

Table and Chair Sets Covers

Measuring a table and chair set is slightly more complicated as it involves covering the entire set as opposed to individual items alone. Position all chairs as you would want them to be covered before taking these measurements.

  • Height: Measure from the ground to the highest point of the tallest chair.
  • Round Tables: Start from the back of one chair, and measure across the table to the back of the opposite chair.
  • Rectangular or Oval Tables: Similar to round tables, start from the back of one chair and measure across the table to the back of the opposite chair. Then, do the same for the width.
